One of the most important but overlooked things is to document your API for future clients, whether they would come from a JS front-end, or a mobile app. Things like:
Luckily, there are a few Laravel packages that allow you to generate such docs automatically. You configure things you need, by modifying the config file and adding some comments to your routes/controllers, then you run an Artisan command, and it saves the static HTML files to a public folder on your server. As a result, you can just send the link to it, to your API consumers.
My personal favorite package for this is called Scribe, and we will use exactly that one.
First, we install it:

Then we publish the config. In the case of this package, it's really important, because you will definitely want to change some config values:

I intentionally pasted the whole huge file of the config, so you would realize, how many options there are. So, in this tutorial, we will definitely cover only the surface, I do recommend reading the official Scribe documentation.
Let's change just a few values here, for now:
By default, Scribe will try to actually launch your API endpoints, while generating the docs, to provide example responses into the docs. But personally I don't like this feature, because those example responses are often incorrect, and in our case, they would get a 401 status code for unauthenticated, anyway.
So, there's an array of which methods to auto-launch, and we remove GET from there, making it an empty array. It means "don't launch any endpoints".

One of the first things our API consumers would see is how to authenticate. Let's change a few default values in the config, to specify that we are expecting a "Bearer Token":

Now, we get to our Controllers and we need to define the groups in the docs that will become parent menu items.
We do that by providing Docblocks or PHP Attributes above our classes or methods. I will just provide the syntax for you, and below will show you the actual final visual result.

It's a static HTML website, with internal links that API clients can browse and read the information on the individual endpoints and their behavior.
As I mentioned, we've just scratched the surface of what Scribe can do and how to configure the docs. You may provide example responses, customize the main/intro information, use Postman collections or OpenAPI spec, and much more. Again, I encourage you to read the official package documentation.
